Tricks not Treats: Fentanyl

Parents are concerned this Halloween due to the candy look-a-like drug, fentanyl.

Rainbow Fentanyl mimics candies such as Sweet Tarts or Skittles.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine, according to dea.gov/dea-warns-brightly-colored-fentanyl-used-target-young-americans.

Parents feel uneasy with the thought of their children unknowingly being poisoned by a deadly drug.

“I’m terrified of it because kids can now longer trick or treat and freely get candy and be happy; we have to fear our younger siblings being poisoned,” sophomore, Semiyah Royal.

This deadly pill has been out for a few years now, but more awareness needs to be brought to the situation.

“It’s frightening; I don’t see myself going trick or treating this year,” senior, Messyah Felder.

In the year of 2021, 107,622 Americans died from drug overdose, ages ranging between 18 to 45 years old.

The producers of fentanyl are making the drug rainbow-colored to attract younger adults.
